South Carolina Virtual Charter School Outperforms Virtual Peers on 2023 South Carolina School Report Card

South Carolina Virtual Charter School (SCVCS), the state’s most veteran virtual school, outperformed all virtual school peers in key academic ratings on the recently released 2023 South Carolina School Report Card.

The South Carolina School Report Card is developed and shared annually by the South Carolina Department of Education and the Education Oversight Committee. The Report Cards, available at www.screportcards.com, provide students, families, educators, and taxpayers with student performance on statewide assessments, financial, safety, and school climate data that are used for state and federal accountability. The 2023 Report Cards cover school, district, and state performance of public schools for the 2022-2023 school year.

SCVCS, which serves students in grades K-12, receives a separate report card for each of its elementary, middle, and high school programs. For each it received an overall Average rating, the only K-12 virtual school to receive such a satisfactory rating across all grade levels.

At the elementary level, SCVCS is the only virtual school that received an Average designation and at the middle and high level received the highest marks of any virtual school for ratings that measure student academic achievement.

SCVCS increased in academic performance from pre-COVID levels across all three school programs.

“We’re proud of our students and teachers for their strong academic performance as evidenced on this year’s report cards,” said Dr. Cherry Daniel, Chief Executive Director of SCVCS. “This is testament to their hard work and the rigorous classroom instruction delivered live each day.”

In addition to academic achievements, SCVCS elementary, middle, and high school programs received Excellent ratings on the School Climate indicator. This indicator considers student, parent, and teacher satisfaction with the overall school environment as measured on surveys.

“While we strive for strong student academic performance and growth every year we also value our parent-teacher relationships, high quality, dedicated teachers, and offering students opportunities both inside and outside the classroom,” added Dr. Cherry Daniel.  “The Report Card shows our strong commitment to these principles, and we are proud that our school community can celebrate these achievements.”
