South Carolina Virtual Charter School Graduates Earn More than

$3 Million in Scholarships

Class of 2023 sees highest college enrollment rate yet

277 students graduated from South Carolina Virtual Charter School (SCVCS) in 2023. Those students earned $3,483,328 in scholarship money to post-secondary institutions across the state and country.

The graduating class has five Palmetto Fellows Scholar Nominees, 69 Life Scholarships Candidates, 94 Hope Scholarship Candidates which in total is 168 South Carolina scholarships.

“We are so excited for our seniors who have graduated and are starting the next chapter of their lives,” said Dr. Cherry Daniel, the Chief Executive Director of SCVCS. “We are especially proud of the thousands of dollars our students earned in scholarships. We are thrilled to have been a part of their journey in preparing them for their next step, and we know they are going to higher education prepared for the challenges and opportunities.”

This June also saw the graduation of the first student to complete the dual credit program at SCVCS. The program enables qualified high school students to earn college credits on select courses toward technical schools and 4-year universities. The SCVCS student will now enter the next phase having completed an associate degree in science from Midlands Technical College in addition to earning a high school diploma.

76% of the 2023 Senior Class is enrolling in advanced training while 21% is headed straight into the workforce and 3% is enlisting in the military. Students are attending 60 different institutions, with 28 of those being out of state.

“We are extremely proud of the hard work our students have put in to not only be accepted to post-secondary education, but to earn scholarship money as well,” said Dr. Hunter Jolley, High School Administrator. “We are excited for the future of our all of our students whether that is in education, the military or the workforce. We know SCVCS has helped them prepare for the future and cannot wait to see what they accomplish.”
